Now the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he believed in his God.

Daniel 6:23 NKJV

My sweet, Iva brings out the protective momma bear instincts in me. She has been attacked by lose dogs twice while we have been walking. The last incident occurred three months ago. I have asked God why He allowed the attack. He should have protected us.

Do you ever wonder why God allows bad things to happen? Why Does God allow the accident that alters someone’s life? Why does God allow disease? Why does God allow my chemistry to be prone to depression?

We want our lives to run smoothly without a speed bump. When it doesn’t, we don’t understand. We even get mad at God. Some may even think God doesn’t love them.

Was Daniel confused or disappointed when God refused to halt the lawmaker’s from passing a law to entrap Daniel during his prayer time? King Darius tried everything to deliver Daniel before being cast into the lion’s den. Why didn’t God allow the king to succeed? Why did Daniel have to spend an entire night with the lions rather than a few hours?

It’s true. God didn’t deliver Daniel from the lion’s den. Instead, He delivered him from the lions.

God didn’t deliver us from the dog attacks, but He delivered us from any physical harm. God hasn’t delivered you from cancer, but He has delivered you through the treatments. God didn’t prevent the accident, but He stayed by your side with His amazing grace as you recovered. God didn’t deliver your child from emergency surgery, but He delivered your precious one through it. God didn’t spare you during the company layoff, but He provided for your family until He opened a new door.

It’s been three months since Iva’s last attack. I don’t like to admit this, but it’s taken me this long to realize God truly delivered her. His protective hand didn’t allow her skin to be punctured.

We need a new perspective. God allows some horrible things for reasons we will never grasp. The enemy’s ax begins chopping away at our faith each time we reconsider God’s faithfulness. We don’t call it that, but that is the direction these thoughts take us. Then we wonder if God will keep us safe the next time.

He is Jehovah Mephalti, the Hebrew name of God that’s translated “The Lord Our Deliverer.”

I don’t know where you are on your journey today, but if you’re struggling, call on God, our deliverer. Expectantly wait for what He will deliver you through, if He doesn’t deliver you from it. The truth is we’ll never know everything He has delivered us from, but when God doesn’t deliver us from it, He delivers us through it.
