So, when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying. (Acts 12:12 NKJV)

My phone came alive buzzing with the familiar ringtone signifying I had a call from my prodigal daughter. I grabbed the phone with anticipation and a hint of dread. What would I hear?

Six weeks had passed since her last call. Even when I called her to wish her a happy birthday, she never answered. I received this text: “I’m busy at work. Call you later.”

After no call came, I grew concerned. Anyone could send a text.

As we talked, I discovered she was fine. She wasn’t homeless or sick.

That’s when I told her about all the people who had prayed for her. She didn’t think much about it, but I knew better, and so do you.

My Monday devotional began with these words: “I haven’t heard from my daughter in thirty days.”

I didn’t request prayer, and I actually wanted to reach the many moms in the same tragic situation as myself. When the preview of my devotional hit Facebook, over one hundred thirty people responded to it. Many began praying for her.

God had His hands all over this. On Tuesday night, one day later, she called. God heard the prayers of so many people going up for my daughter.

In Acts chapter twelve, a group gathered to pray for Peter as he sat in prison waiting on his execution the following morning. Suddenly, an angel broke Peter out of prison. He went to Mary’s house where the people met to pray. Shocked to see Peter, they almost didn’t believe it could be him. Often, we think just like that prayer group. We fail to fully believe prayers will be answered.

If you feel weary from praying for years, I want to remind you today that prayer changes things. Prayers are powerful, and especially when many people call on the Lord for a common cause.

Don’t give up, because God hears all of our prayers. I pray that my amazing answer to prayer will encourage you today. Sweet friend, whatever your need, pray with fervor and confidence.

Heavenly Father, as our good, good Father, You hear our prayers, and You delight to answer them. Sometimes Your answer is wait, but other times, You answer swiftly. Thank You for Your perfect timing. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
