Here is another devotion from my new devotional journal, “Faith That Walks on Water: Conquering Emotional Bondage With the Armor of God.”
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” Matthew 14:28
You hold this book in your hands because Jesus called me onto the waves. Leaving the security of working with a dear Christian publisher to work with a faith-filled team of Christian sisters at Redemption Press required a huge investment. One that risked triggering a tsunami of events.
Jesus urged His disciples to get into the boat, promising to meet them on the other side. During their nighttime journey, they sailed into a fierce storm. Jesus went to them walking on the storm-tossed sea. The disciples grew more fearful of this ghostly figure on the water than of the storm itself.
Then Jesus spoke the same words He speaks to me. They’re the same words He speaks to you, “Do not be afraid,” (Matthew 14:27).
Overwhelmed by the sight of Jesus walking toward them, presumptuous Peter asked Jesus to command him to join Him. Peter desired to share an amazing experience with His Lord. His courage soared thinking about the feel of the water under his feet.
Jesus said, “Come.” (Matthew 14:29)
Ecstatic, Peter rushed to climb out of the boat. Eyes locked on Jesus, Peter took one step and then another. He did it! He walked on the stormy waves.
Eyes of faith find security in the eyes of Jesus.
Then the whipping winds caught Peter’s attention, drawing his focus from Jesus to the storm. Trembling, Peter began sinking. “Lord, save me!” (Matthew 14:30)
Immediately, Jesus caught Peter, and He asked, “Why did you doubt?” (Matthew. 14:31)
Like Peter, I signed my publishing contract with exuberance, but the winds of fear might blow in one day. At that time, I hope I’ll be grounded enough not to remove my eyes from Jesus, and I won’t allow doubt and anxiety to pull me under.
Friend, has God called you out onto the water? Trust Jesus to rescue you when the winds and waves surround you with fearful lies. When we lose our balance, we must trust Him to give us His hand. He has rescued us from hell, and He will rescue us from the storms that frighten us. Can you say Yes to Jesus today?
In the book, each devotion is followed by a Ponder and Practice section with thought provoking questions to help you build a battle plan to overcome emotional bondage. Order this week, for only $0.99 on Kindle.

Key here is keep my eyes on Jesus.
Yes, I think we should say we need to continually need to put our eyes back on Jesus.
