WHAT IS OUR GOLDEN CALF
By Carolyn Dale Newell
Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt,
We do not know what has become of him.”
Ex. 32:1 NKJV
Was it impatience and fear that led the Israelites down the path of idolatry with the golden calf? Did they search for new gods because they lost faith in the one, true God? Was crossing the Red Sea on dry ground a fading memory?
How quickly do we fall into the same patterns! In our fast paced world of conveniences, we expect things to move along quickly. When God delays in answering our prayers, we often take matters into our own hands. That is what happened when Abraham and Sarah grew weary waiting for God to give them the promised son. It did not work out good for them, and it did not work out good for these Israelites when they worshipped a golden calf.
We also fall prey to fear. Something comes along in our lives, and it causes us to fear. Many times, our fears are about the future.
It all comes down to trusting God. I have prayed about several things for many years. I get frustrated that the situations have never changed, but I know God has perfect timing, and He is in control of everything.
When I find myself falling into the “O ye of little faith” group, I remind myself of Who God is. I have to remember my “Red Seas” which He has brought me through. I recall His promises: promises to never leave me, promises to give strength and grace, and promises to supply my needs. Allow God’s promises to quiet your fears. Let’s be watchful that fear and impatience never lead us to the golden calf.
Dear heavenly Father,
Help us not fall into patterns of doubt, worry and fear. Thank You for being faithful to Your promises. In Jesus’ name, amen.

HIKING THE TRAIL
Satan loves to create fear and worry for us. We see how far it went for the Israelites when they worshiped the golden calf. Which Bible verses can you memorize to remind yourself not to fall for the enemy’s tricks?
