He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together. (Colossians 1:17 CSB)

Certain circumstances and dates frame our lives. Graduations, weddings, beginning a new job and leaving an old one. Some dates are forever etched in our minds: September 11, 2001, the day you were diagnosed with cancer, the day your husband, child, or parent abandoned you, or the day someone pass from this world.

When our world falls apart, God holds it together.

When we walk by sight, we see the ruins of our lives as we once knew them. Before the accident. Before the stroke. Before the natural disaster. But my friend, that is why God’s people walk by faith, and not sight.

Faith sees the way God works all things together for good (Rom. 8:28) Faith sees God making a way. Faith sees God’s blessings. Faith sees God’s plans and purposes unfolding before us.

Today might be the day your life takes an unexpected turn. You can’t see any thread of hope to hold onto. But allow me to be the friend holding your hand and telling you that hope still exists. It is the hope that comes from walking by faith and not sight.

If today is your day of calamity, I want to encourage you to focus on God and not the surrounding problems. When decisions must be made, pray about them. This did not catch God by surprise. For some unknown reason, too complex to fathom, God has allowed you to walk through this trial.

You feel out of control, but God has everything under control.

Trust Him! He loves you, and He has plans for you to give you a future and a hope (Jer. 29:11).

It’s easy for me to write this while my life isn’t chaotic, but these are the truths people have shared with me when chaos ruled my world. These are also the truths I want to live by when it all falls apart again. It’s nothing we don’t already know, but our brains fail to function well under pressure.

God not only created us; He sustains us. That’s why we can sleep at night and not worry we might forget to breathe. It’s why we can sleep soundly unaware of the rapid spinning of our planet as it constantly travels around the universe without colliding into another object and without us flying out into outer space. And since our God can handle all that, He can handle my problems. He can handle your problems too.

It is true; God does have the whole world in His very capable hands. Everything is under His sovereign control. I’m glad we don’t serve some weak god because then I would have a reason to worry. Now I can go to sleep without a doubt that God’s got this.

Heavenly Father, I tend to forget Your awesomeness. You can certainly handle my problems, and I will focus on You rather than my situation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
