Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. (Exodus 12:13 NKJV)

Are you familiar with the phrase, “plead the blood?” would it surprise you that nowhere in the Bible do we find that phrase? The idea of pleading the blood came from the first Passover in Exodus Chapter twelve.

It isn’t a magic formula just by saying those words. Pleading the blood can actually be a lifestyle.

How did the children of Israel plead the blood during the first Passover?  God instructed them to eat unleavened bread for seven days, and all leaven had to be removed from their houses.  If anyone ate leaven during that week, they would be cut off from Israel. In Scripture, leaven symbolizes sin.

God declared the first and seventh days of Passover holy, and no one could do any work on those particular days. God wanted the Israelites to observe this feast as a memorial, telling the generations to come the meaning of this celebration.  It marks the day the death angel visited Egypt, killing the firstborn of any household that didn’t apply the blood to their doorposts. Israel’s firstborn survived because the blood had been applied to the doorposts. This celebrated Israel’s liberation from their bondage in Egypt.

Each family selected a lamb without blemish, an individual ordinance. After killing the Passover lamb, they drained the blood from it, brushing it on the lintel and doorposts of their homes. Then they waited as the death angel came through the land.

On that first Passover, they pled the blood by aligning themselves in obedience to God. Because they trusted in God, they lived a life that demonstrated what it means to plead the blood. The same holds true for us today. Do we live a life that pleads the blood?

If you are a Christian, the blood of Jesus Christ has already been applied to you. No special words or prayers can change that. Sometimes, we stray away from Him, and we can miss out on blessings and answered prayer.

Examine your life. Do you live in a manner that pleads the blood? It’s the walk and not our talk that pleads the blood of Jesus.

Lord Jesus, help me live in obedience, submitting my life to You. May my lifestyle plead the blood at all times. Show me any sin and forgive me. In Jesus’ name. amen.

DIG DEEPER

Read Revelation 12:11 NKJV:

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

HIKING THE TRAIL

Jesus is forever our Passover lamb, and we are covered by His blood, eternally. According to the above verse, how do we overcome the enemy?
