Do you ever read through the book of Exodus and shake your head when you read about the ungrateful complaining Israelites. They had seen the miracles of God. They were under His hand of protection, but all they did was whine.
I recently realized I’m just as guilty as those long-ago Israelites. For over six weeks, I have lived with more pain than I’ve ever known, and the end is not in sight.

The Footsteps of Suffering

Christians were not only called to salvation, but we were called to suffer. Peter wrote his first epistle to believers who were suffering severe persecution. Some were used as human torches, while others were fed to the lions.

Beware of Modern-Day Idols

What a wonderful promise! God is comparing Himself against the idols in verses 1-2 which bow down and stoop. They cannot sustain you like God does. However, in verses 3-4, God speaks directly to Israel and also to Christians.
Our idols today are not carved images. Our idols are money, jobs, relationships, health, property… Naturally, when we lose one of these, we become anxious, but if you are trusting in them rather than God and it is snatched away, then you are devastated. Any of these things can be taken within a day. All it takes is a phone call from the doctor, a company shutting down and laying off, an unexpected expense, or a death and they are gone.
