Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you

1 Thes. 5:17-18 NKJV

What does it mean to pray without ceasing? We have to sleep. We have to work, and we must keep our eyes open while driving. How is it possible to pray without ceasing? It’s not that difficult once we realize that praying without ceasing is a lifestyle built around prayer.

Quite naturally, all prayers will not be down on our knees, and yes, people pray while they drive – with their eyes open. There is no correct posture for prayer. It is communication with our heavenly Father. The Creator of this universe wants to fellowship with us – unceasingly.

As we go about our day, and we see a beautiful sunrise, we offer a prayer of praise. We thank Him for providing our food, homes and jobs. We hear terrible news on the TV, and our first response is to pray. We hear that someone is sick, and our first response is prayer.

Everything in our life becomes a reason to pray. Prayer should be as natural for us as breathing.

Notice that this is the will of God. He wants to commune with us. We are not bothering Him. He welcomes this.

Another part of God’s will is thankfulness – for everything – good and bad. Our prayers should be filled with thanks. As hard as it sounds, we must thank Him for the bad things too. We know that our loving Father has allowed this horrible thing to come into our life for some unseen reason. We trust Him for His purpose in allowing it. We thank Him for how He will bring us through it. We thank Him because it will give Him glory. We are thankful because it is refining us to be more like Christ.

Christians see the world through “God colored” glasses. Our response to all things should be prayer. Our prayer life should be a life of prayer.

THE NAMES OF GOD

Elohei Mikkarov – God Who Is Near

“Am I a God near at hand,” says the Lord, “And not a God afar off?” Jer. 23:23 NKJV

God is always near, 24/7. If He ever seems far, it is because we have chosen to be far from Him. He is near so we can praise Him, we can thank Him, and we can confide in Him. We can intercede for those who are in trouble or those who are sick. We can be calmed at any moment of the day. Elohei Mikkarov wants us to pray without ceasing.

Father,
