When Everything Hits You at Once
You who still the noise of the seas,
The noise of their waves,
And the tumult of the peoples. (Psalm 65:7 NKJV)
When I added the appointment to my calendar using Alexa, I was reminded that only one hour stood between that appointment and a Zoom meeting at home. I assured myself we could do it if we make no other stops.
My husband complained that morning about my scheduling, because now he had to also stop at the pharmacy.
“We can still do it. If we leave when you get home at 4:00, we have time to go by the pharmacy, get Iva’s pedicure at the vet, and still be home for my 6:00 meeting.”
But at 4:00, my mother-in-law’s toilet stopped up. With only ten minutes before Iva’s pedicure, I volunteered to cancel the appointment, but my husband refused. He dropped us off at the vet while he got the prescription, but the bet had an emergency, a piglet in cardiac arrest.
I got home just in time to power my computer on at 6:00. Have you ever had a day like that? Multiple little things come at you one after another. The rush creates frustration and stress.
Job had a rapid-fire crisis, but he had major troubles. He lost all his livestock, servants, and children in one afternoon. How did Job respond to losing everything with worship? In all honesty, worship isn’t on my mind on days like these.
Today’s verse tells us that God can quiet the noise of the storm and the chaos of the people. He can wrap us in peace while crises unfold. He can choose to make the storms cease.
The enemy loves distraction. The surrounding noise begs for our attention.
We must choose to be intentional about not removing our eyes from Jesus.
Are you in the midst of a rush, a crisis, or a storm? Is it too many little things, too many obligations and not enough time, or is it a major life blow like Job? In either case, we can choose our response. We choose where to focus. Ask God to quiet all the noise, so you can lock eyes on Him.
Heavenly Father, my world has a loud voice and it demands my attention. Please turn the volume down, because I want to hear from You. I want to turn to You in stress and in crisis. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

I found a period of time I had way too much on my plate so to speak. I found myself rushing off one zoom to log into another one and then there were the times where there were two things i wanted to attend but both were same day and time so i had to choose one over the other or just not go to either zoom call. When that happened a few too many times i decided I needed to be more selective of what i wanted on my schedule. I learned I cannot do ALL the things 100% and therefore none were given my best. I learned to pick and choose more wisely. Right now I am doing 4 Bible studies. That is too many at the same time as none of the four are getting 100% of my self. The good thing about Bible studies is I have the book and can go back and just do 1 at a time later on. So after these 4 are over no more trying to do them ALL.
Yes, I’ve been there too. We just can’t do all the things. So glad God quiets some of these storms of our own doing. And the important thing is we learn from them.
