Those who trust in the Lord
Are like Mount Zion,
Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.
Psalm 125:1-2 NKJV
Imagine you’ve waited all year for your beach vacation. Once in your room, you rush to open the draperies excited to see waves crashing, dolphins splashing in the distance, and seagulls diving for fish. Wait a minute! That’s not your view. All you see is a sand dune surrounded by sea oats. Your room with a view isn’t what you expected, and neither is life.
What stands before your mind’s eye right now? Definitely the corona virus has touched everyone, but what else blurs your vision? Struggles to make ends meet? A medical condition that refuses to cease? A broken relationship? A losing battle with depression, heartache, or grief?
Whatever you see is like the sand dune preventing you from seeing what’s ahead. When you change rooms, you’ll get a better view. And when you change your prospective, you will see God and not the problems.
In our first verse, the Psalmist assures us that those who trust in the Lord cannot be moved. That speaks of stability. Faith and stability go hand in hand. We need the firm foundation of Jesus Christ under our feet. We need to trust God without wavering. Trust Him when the days appear bleak. Trust Him when the doctors say they can’t do anything else. Trust Him when the enemy says you’re going under. Waves of discouragement and doubt take aim at us. Satan tries to knock us down and remove our footing, but when we wholeheartedly trust God, we cannot be moved.
As we continue unpacking our treasure chest of truth, we discover that God surrounds His people like the mountains surround Jerusalem. God wants us to know we aren’t alone. He is with us, but the problem lies within our perspective. We can’t see Him because our view is blocked. We perceive the people and problems obstructing our view. We see the disease and the doctor who says no hope exists. We see the bills and our empty checking accounts. We see our loved ones who have been ripped out of our arms by drugs, porn, gangs, or death. We see the darkness of depression, the blackness of brokenness, and the clouds of our chaotic lives.
My friend, hear this powerful truth; God the unseen is greater than the seen. We can’t see God, but He has promised to never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). We need to call the front desk of our minds and request a change of perspective. We need to look through eyes of faith not eyes of doubt. We need to use the telescopic lens of faith to see God surrounding us like the mountains surround Jerusalem.
We must trust Him to remove all those blockades. Life’s view is beautiful with a new perspective.
Lord, help me see with the eyes of my heart, not what the enemy puts in front of me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
DIG DEEPER
Read 2 Corinthians 4:18 NKJV
while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
HIKING THE TRAIL
Why should we focus on God (the things that are not seen) rather than the problems we can see? Refer to the above verse.
