And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; (Acts 1:4 NKJV)

I don’t wait well. Can you relate? I prayed for God to restore the hearing in my left ear which had occurred from Sudden Sensory Neuro Hearing Loss. Wait! That’s all I heard from God for six months.

No healing. No urgency to get hearing aids. Even when I found hearing aids at a reduced price, God still said, “Wait.”

In Acts chapter one, the disciples demonstrated how we should wait on our answers to prayer. Before ascending to heaven, Jesus gave them instructions. Don’t leave Jerusalem, but wait on the promise of the Father. Jesus gave them the promise:

for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1:5 NKJV)

The word baptize means to immerse. John had baptized by immersion in water, but now the Holy Spirit would immerse them with power.

They returned to the upper room to wait (Acts 1:13). Then we learn how they spent their time waiting on a prayer and a promise.

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. (Acts 1:14 NKJV)

They waited praying in one accord. Notice, they united in prayer, making their prayers even more powerful.

How do you wait? How much time do you spend in prayer? Is anyone praying in agreement with you (Matt. 18:19)?

The disciples waited until the day of Pentecost to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. After six frustrating months of waiting, God restored my hearing. I am glad I never gave into my impatience by purchasing expensive hearing aids, because it would have been a waste of money.

Sweet sister, are you waiting in frustration today? When irritation creeps in, and your patience grows thin, go to the Lord in prayer. Text a friend to pray united with you over the matter.

God’s timing is perfect, but He wants to commune with you over the matter. He adores our praise as we thank Him for His grace and mercy. Whatever you are waiting on right now, stop and pray. Communicate with the one who will answer.

Heavenly Father, I’m not good at waiting. Help me spend time in prayer and bring someone along to pray with me. I give You my request again, believing You will answer in the name of Jesus. Amen.

DIG DEEPER

Read Isaiah 40:30-31 NKJV:

Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

HIKING THE TRAIL

How can you add more time for prayer in your schedule? Is it possible to get up earlier or go to bed later? Do you pray while doing other activities such as cleaning or driving?
