And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

(Romans 4:19-20 NKJV)

Have you found yourself in a situation where you wish God would descend a divine staircase, pull up a chair, sit down, and give you clear direction, like when He talked to Abraham? Was it so easy for Abraham to believe God’s incredible promises because he spoke to God as a friend?

The truth is we have the Bible full of promises, and we can talk to God like a friend when we pray. We are usually the ones who keep our distance.

Each day, we must make a choice. Are we going to trust God’s promises because we know He is faithful, or are we going to live in doubt and despair?

Our scriptures today tell us that Abraham’s faith wasn’t weak. Abraham and Sarah had waited twenty-five years for the promised son. A physical impossibility considering their age, but with God, all things are possible.

We must ask the question: do I have weak faith or strong faith? When faced with disappointment, frustration, or suffering, what is your first reaction? Why?

Abraham didn’t waiver in unbelief. How firmly are we standing on God’s promises? Do we teeter back and forth between faith and unbelief?

Each day, we must firmly decide we are going to choose to walk in faith. We are not going to drift back into doubt, but we will move forward in a firm confidence in God and His Word.

Below are just a few of my favorite promises. As you read through them, listen for the Holy Spirit to speak to you and say, “This promise is for you today.”

  • “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV)
  • No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
    You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,”
    Says the Lord.
    (Isaiah 54:17 NKJV)
  • And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28 NKJV)
  • “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NKJV)
  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13 NKJV)
  • And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19 NKJV)
  • For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV)
