The Spiritual Supply Chain

For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, (Philippians 1:19 NKJV)

Are you concerned about our nation’s most recent calamity, a broken supply chain? Here in the United States, we’ve probably skipped the section of the Lord’s Prayer where we pray for our daily bread, but now I find myself including today’s provisions in my prayers. I give thanks for the groceries my husband brings home. I used to take food for granted.

Whether it’s food, household items, Christmas gifts, or some other need, we have a limitless supply chain through the Holy Spirit. He also provides intangible items, such as grace and mercy.

When Paul wrote to the Philippians, he sat in a Roman jail, unsure of his release or his death. He possessed confidence that either way, God would deliver him. Can we share in the same confidence that Paul demonstrated? Do we know without a doubt that God will deliver us?

Let’s dig deeper into this verse, because the remainder of this verse will give our faith a much-needed boost. One reason Paul expected deliverance was prayer. He knew the Philippians prayed for him, and he believed they prayed with earnest expectation. He felt their prayers, and he trusted that God used the Philippians as the means for his release.

The next reason Paul could rest in assurance while still imprisoned was the supply of the Spirit. Do we ever pause to think about the supply of the Holy Spirit? Such a random word carries a powerful definition in the Greek. It connotes the idea of a bountiful supply. Ships might set out in the Pacific Ocean, and shelves might remain bare, but the supply from the Spirit never runs short. God’s full resources are available to us all the time.

When we find ourselves in need of grace, He generously pours it out upon us. Do we need mercy? Here’s a plentiful helping.

Friend, I believe God still works miracles when His children shop half-empty stores. But I am confident, like Paul, that the prayers of the saints and the limitless supply of the Spirit will always deliver us from all that comes our way. Give the Holy Spirit some thanks today for a bountiful supply chain.

Holy Spirit, I rarely talk directly to You, but as the third Person in the Trinity, You live within me. I don’t have to wait in line or wait for a delivery. Your deliveries arrive right on time. Thank You for never running short. Amen.

Read Philippians 4:19 (NKJV):

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
