Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
(Mark 11:9NKJV)

If Jesus entered our cities today, in a procession down Main Street, would we welcome Him with shouts of “Hosanna?” On that first Palm Sunday, the Jews honored Jesus as they lined the streets of Jerusalem, welcoming Him and waving palm branches.

We share much in common with the Jews that long ago day. Like them, we feel oppressed.  Our top news stories tell of wars and rumors of war. Plagues and pestilence lurk in the shadows, and inflation soars with the scarcity of food looming.

Hosanna means “Save, now.” It’s a cry for salvation and also for deliverance. That day, they recognized Jesus Christ as their Messiah, but just within a few days, their cries changed as they demanded, “Crucify Him!”

Why did their minds take such a drastic turn in such a short time? Like us today, the Jews wanted immediate relief. They didn’t want a crucified Messiah. They failed to understand that the death of Jesus would provide them with more than any earthly kingdom ever could.

We must not fall into the same trap as the Jews, desiring an immediate relief from the suffering created by this world. Jesus helps us daily., Although He doesn’t remove all suffering at once, that total fulfillment will occur in heaven.

Hosanna can be a shout of praise. Christ delivers us from the chains that bind us, but we will receive total deliverance when we make the journey home to live with our Lord and Savior forever.”

Praise the Lord!” We praise Him for rescuing us from death and hell. We praise Him for dying in our place. We praise Him as provider and our great physician. We praise Him for His grace, mercy, and love. We praise Him for His precious promises. We praise Him for giving us His Word to read.

So, feel free to shout, “Hosanna!” We know Jesus inhabits the praises of His people, and we long to rest in His presence.

Lord Jesus, we praise You! We adore You! We trust Your timing for deliverance, and Your saving grace blesses us. Amen.
