Start Thinking Like the New You

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV)

Do you like yourself? Here’s a better question: are you comfortable in your skin? As Christians, we are new creations, but someone didn’t send that memo to our brains. We don’t think like new creations. In fact, we still think like worldly Christians.

I remained ashamed of my blindness many years after God saved me. Kids made fun of me in school, and that left a lasting impression. You don’t fit in. You are different and that’s bad.

When I was about fifty years old, I began liking myself for the new creation God made me to be. God loves me and is not ashamed of my blindness. He created me. I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139:14)

Now, the surgeon says I need to see a spinal deformity doctor. I have lived with scoliosis almost as long as I have lived with a visual impairment. It’s never noticeable, but the xray reveals a very curvy spine.

I’m glad I am a new creation, because I have no shame about my curvy spine. I am fearfully and wonderfully made, a masterpiece (Eph. 2:10 NLT).

Friend, are you thinking like a new creation yet? Have you realized that God loves you and isn’t ashamed of you? Do you carry shame around like extra baggage?

My friend, you are a new creation, with a renewed mind (Rom. 12:2) and a new image. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are His masterpiece.

Today is the day that you stop carrying shame around and you live accepted. You live loved by God. You live as a wonderful masterpiece.

Stop thinking like the world, and say out loud who you really are. Remind yourself of that every day until it becomes firmly planted in your mind. You are a new you.

Heavenly Father, help me remember Your love and acceptance of me. Thank You for Bible verses that remind us of who we are, and thank You for making me a new creation from the blood of Christ. Amen.

“Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame.
Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
You will forget the shame of your youth
and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood. (Isaiah 54:4 NIV)
