Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, (Ephesians 3:20 NKJV)
Do you pray safe prayers? We don’t ask for the big stuff, because we don’t dare sound greedy, but do we not have because we don’t ask (James 4:2)? What if we asked big, since He’s a big God?
Last April, I released my second devotional in my Guide Dog Tales series. Do you know how many books I asked God to allow me to sell? Twenty! Why such a small request? It’s not about the money and numbers. Then I realized God didn’t give me those life stories with my guide dog, Iva and their correlating truths from the Bible only to have books sit in an Amazon file or in a box in my den.
Late 2021, I began praying big prayers. No longer did I allow the ceiling to be my limit. God can do abundantly and exceedingly above and beyond what we think or ask.
I began praying for a growing email list, more web site traffic, and more sales. As I finished writing my next book, I began praying that it would sell two hundred copies, but someone convinced me I am still praying too small.
Jabez prayed for God to enlarge his borders along with a few other requests. God granted everything Jabez requested. Why do we hinder our prayers with limitations?
Look at our focal verse, and now let’s take note of a few other translations. The NIV says “Immeasurably more.” The NLT says “accomplish infinitely more.” Do you get the picture that God can blow our minds with what He can do and will do if we only ask?
As of today, I’ve seen God’s hand upon the web traffic. Current book sales have already exceeded last year’s total. I have a growing email list, Facebook group. Just after attending a conference, I received a huge donation right before my computer called it quits. All the things God did for others, He is now doing for me, because I asked.
Friend, today, I encourage you to ask big. We have a big God. Don’t put Him in a box. Give Him the freedom to blow your mind with all He wants to do. He is just waiting for you to ask.
Heavenly Father, I release all limits. I don’t ask in greed, but out of a desire that You receive glory. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
