And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; Who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. (Acts 3:2-3 NKJV)
If you’re like me, you have a running problem. I run far ahead of God, which makes it hard for Him to lead me when I am ahead. I’m already packing my suitcase in my mind for a conference in three months.
The same thing occurred when my temporary hearing loss sent me in search of hearing aids, an expensive item. I considered a bank loan, private financing, and dipping into savings. Then God healed me. Hallelujah!
The lame beggar in Acts chapter three scanned for resources, like I did. Resources accomplish little. By the time I could pay off the loan, I’d need a new pair of hearing aids. I didn’t want a life time of debt.
The beggar could only expect a few coins. His life revolved around daily begging, depending on the kindness of others.
One day, He found his source in Jesus Christ. Banks, savings, and charitable donations are our resources. Nothing wrong with resources, as long as we recognize our source is God. With God as our source, He provides for us through our resources, such as a job.
As Peter and John went to the temple to pray, the beggar saw them as another resource, but Peter explained he had no money. Peter and John had something better than the resource. They introduced the lame beggar to Jesus Christ, the source.
The difference between a source and a resource is the source can out do the resource.
The cripple man didn’t ask big. A few coins brought him happiness. Peter declared, “Rise up and walk.” (Acts 3:6) Then Peter helped him to his feet. The beggar praised God as he leaped around the temple.
God takes us from limping to leaping.
Friend, I don’t know what your needs are today. Perhaps you seek something as small as a few coins. Possibly, you have a larger need. With God as our source, ask for the bigger things in life. Not out of greed, but out of the knowledge that our heavenly Father has riches unimaginable.
Ask big. We serve a big God.
As you pray today, remember God isn’t merely your resource. He is your source. Pray big today. You serve a big God.
Lord Jesus, I often forget You are the source behind every resource. Help me remember to come to You first, before I consider my resources. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
DIG DEEPER
HIKING THE TRAIL
Think outside the box when you pray. We don’t want to sound greedy, and often that holds us back. Ask and allow God to decide on the size of your answer.

Resources run dry but “THE” source never does. Thanking Jesus is my source.
Amen!
