Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
Hebrews 2:14 NKJV
Today, a lot of “What if?” questions traveled through my mind. Do you know the type? I try not to entertain them often, nor the thoughts that come from a place of fear. God does not give us a spirit of fear (2 Tim. 1:7).
Then I read this verse. It states that our enemy, the devil, has been destroyed. Did you read that part? Why then, does he continue to stir up so much trouble?
My husband used to sneak up on me and yell, “Boo!” I’d scream and jump while he laughed.
Well, that’s what the devil does. He sneaks into our lives and does something to stir up fright or worry. If he’s been destroyed, how can he do this?
He has no power, although he has been allowed to run lose for a season. We, as Christians, need to remember he has been declawed and defanged. He can do nothing. Many things we give him credit for result from our own flesh. We think the wrong thoughts. We respond to raw emotions. We are now new creations, and we must put the old man to death daily. That keeps our flesh in order. We also need to work on renewing our minds daily. Spend time in the Word meditating or memorizing Scripture. That helps declutter the junk in our mind.
The devil has been destroyed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, so don’t allow him to sneak up on you. Allow the Spirit to reign in your life because you are God’s dear child.
Lord Jesus, help me remember that You have destroyed my enemy, the devil. He has no power over me. Help me take control of my flesh by putting it to death daily and renewing my mind. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
Thank you Carolyn! I really need to read this today. The mind is such a battlefield for me right now. This came right on time.
I’m so glad
