And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. (1 John 4:16 NKJV)

Accidents follow blind people like birds seek for worms. Yesterday, I stubbed my toe on something out of place. It almost took my entire toenail off, so I asked my husband, Timmy to bandage it to prevent my shoes from rubbing it.

I kicked back in the recliner with Iva by my side. Timmy began playing doctor. Iva jumped in the floor for a better view, but soon returned to the sofa. Iva crawled onto my lap down to my knees observing with careful attention what her Daddy was doing to Mom.

This precious act of love brought a smile to my lips. “Look how precious she is!”

Iva’s not the only one concerned about every detail. God cares about everything from the tiniest detail to the major events of our lives. Iva doesn’t get on my lap all day, but she keeps her eye on me. I know it, but I don’t see it.

God also watches us with an observant eye, but unless we concentrate on Him, we don’t give it a second thought.

Perhaps we remember His love as we read our Bibles. Maybe we consider His great love when we pray, but since we cannot physically see God’s adoration, His immense love wanders away from the forefront of our minds.

Iva reminded me yesterday that God loves me more than she does, and friend, He loves you too. Let’s unpack our verse.

We know God’s love, not as a fact, but an experience. We have felt His love. We have seen His love in Jesus Christ on the cross.

We also believe His love. This implies faith. We trust His love, even when we cannot see it or feel it.

How can we know and believe God’s love at all times, even in the hard times? We abide in Him, which means we dwell with Him. We hang out with Him. We spend quality time together.

As we celebrate love this month, let’s acknowledge God’s love for us. We often forget and neglect God’s love. Curl up in your heavenly Father’s lap and let Him love on you. If we don’t experience God’s love, we have failed to know Him.

Lord God, Your love is precious to me. Help me spend more time with You so I can know and believe Your great love. Amen.

DIG DEEPER

Read John 15:9-10 NKJV:

“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”

HIKING THE TRAIL

How can you carve more time out for God today? Can you make it a habit?
