For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. (Romans 12:3 NKJV)

I tried on many hats before I found the perfect fit. I taught vacation Bible school, worked in the nursery, sang solos and in the choir. But when I began writing and speaking, I recognized my spiritual gift. Now in 2022, I celebrate ten years in ministry.

Perhaps, like me, you’ve done your share of trying on various hats. Maybe, you have always known your gift, but just in case you’re still searching for that perfect fit, let’s go to God’s Word.

Paul tells us God has given each of us a measure of faith. In his study Bible, John MacArthur says this is “the correct proportion of the spiritual gift, supernatural endowment, and ability” given by the Holy Spirit to individual believers. God has given you a measure of faith and He has given me a measure of faith, so He has fully equipped us to walk in our calling.

Paul goes on to explain, we are many members with different functions in one body (Rom. 12:4). He continues by listing some of the spiritual gifts such as prophecy, ministry, teaching, exhorting, giving, leading, and showing mercy (Rom. 12:6-8). When we return to the beginning of this chapter, we will discover what we must do to not only discover our gifts, but to accomplish them.

Present your bodies a living sacrifice (Rom. 12:1b NKJV). God through the pen of Paul commands us to be a living sacrifice. When we sacrifice self, He fills us with His Spirit. When we stop conforming to the world and allow God to transform us into the likeness of Jesus Christ, we will discover our spiritual gifts. He will enable us to excel in those gifts by feeding our Spirit.

Sacrificial living and transformation play a vital part in our calling. A worldly Christian lacks the maturity to function in their gift. When we start down the path of offering ourselves a living sacrifice, we stop conforming to the world, and God transforms us, He can use us for His calling.

Heavenly Father, help me become a living sacrifice daily. Destroy all worldliness, and transform me, filling me to the brim with Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

DIG DEEPER

Read Romans 12:1-2 NKJV:

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

HIKING THE TRAIL

Pray and ask God what is one worldly thing you need to release today. Then work in His power to let that go.
