“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8 NKJV)

As a child, I played with my little wooden blocks. Each block portrayed a letter of the alphabet. I could use them to create words or build a castle.

Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet, and Omega is the last. When Jesus Christ declared “I am the Alpha and Omega,” He meant He consisted of everything from A to Z. We often use that term to describe something that contains all the information on a subject.

With twenty-six letters in the English alphabet, we create myriads of words. All words come from those twenty-six letters. We cannot create a word or a book without them, and we can’t find total fulfillment apart from Jesus Christ.

He is the sum of all knowledge and wisdom. We go to Jesus as our source for wisdom when making decisions. He holds the answers to all of life’s questions.

Jesus also made Himself equal with God when He declared Himself as the Alpha and Omega. In Isaiah, we find where God said,

“I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God.” (Isaiah 44:6b NKJV).

Since God declares He is the First and the Last, and Jesus says He is Alpha and Omega, Jesus is God.

The world is filled with knowledge and intellect, but unless we go to the Alpha and Omega, we won’t find the answers we seek so desperately. His knowledge surpasses all other forms of knowledge. We must ask ourselves if we want the divine answers for our lives from Jesus, and are we willing to follow Him no matter the costs? No matter the risks.

As we celebrate Christmas this season, let’s be intentional about focusing on Christ. Don’t allow the hustle and bustle to grab our attention from the Alpha and Omega. When our fast-paced lives threaten to steal our peace, remember who is the First and the Last. When the world gets crazy, Let’s worship He who is and who was and who is to come. When we lack anything from wrapping paper to that special gift, let’s trust in the one who is the Beginning and the End. Jesus Christ, the Alpha and Omega; He’s all we’ll ever need.

Alpha and Omega, because You are the First and the Last, I must come to You first and not last, not even second. I want to live my life under the sum total of Your wisdom and not that of the world. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

Read Isaiah 48:12 NKJV:

“Listen to Me, O Jacob,
And Israel, My called:
I am He; I am the First,
I am also the Last.

HIKING THE TRAIL

Who do you go to with decisions, big and small? If it isn’t Jesus, why do you trust the advice of others and not Him?
