God loved us when we were dirty, rotten sinners. He loved us at our worst. Yet, He set His love on us, making a huge sacrifice so He can spend eternity with us.
Romans 5:8 NKJV:
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Ephesians 2:4-5 NKJV:
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
Not only does God love us, but He calls us His friends. Think about that for a minute. God is your most loving friend, one who will never leave you.
John 15:13 NKJV:
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
Nothing can separate us from God’s love. Nothing we can do. Nothing the devil can do, although he tries, and certainly, nothing God will ever do. This verse is written as a rhetorical question.
Romans 8:35 NKJV:
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
If you can make time, read 1 John chapter 4. That entire chapter is filled with the love of God. Here are a couple of those verses.
1 John 4:16 NKJV
And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
1 John 4:19 NKJV:
We love Him because He first loved us.
It’s important that we believe God loves us, so we can trust Him fully, and we can rest in our identity as a child of God.
