4 Ways God’s Love Conquers Emotional Bondage

that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19 NKJV)

Just a few hours ago, I had a root canal. They had to go deep into the roots to solve the problem. We also need to go deep into God’s love to conquer emotional bondage and a host of other problems.  When we are rooted and grounded in God’s love, we will be stable.

While riding the emotional roller-coaster of fear, worry, anxiety, or discouragement, we don’t have any stability. Most trees grow deep roots, so they can weather the gusty winds that come with summer thunderstorms and winter blizzards. In areas where the ground stays frozen longer, the roots grow horizontally and the trees support one another.

The word grounded refers to a construction term. The foundation of a building determines the stability of that building.

When we are rooted and grounded in God’s love, we live peaceful stable lives.

We also must allow Christ to dwell, or hang out, in our hearts. Jesus cannot remain in a heart filled with sin. We must allow Him to clean up our mess and remain there to conquer emotional bondage.

Next, never cease learning about God’s love. Seek to know about His immeasurable love as a constant in life. When we become complacent about God’s love, we stop seeing our worth to Him. He loved us enough to send His only Son to die for us.

Finally, we pray to be filled with all His fullness. God cannot fill the heart ruled by flesh, but when we give Him full spiritual capacity, He can fill us to the brim with His Spirit.

This passage is the prayer Paul prayed for the Ephesian people. It should be our prayer too. God’s love matters, and it makes a huge difference in how we see ourselves and how much we trust Him.

Once we set our minds and hearts to focus fully on Christ, we can say this promise with Paul in full assurance that we believe it to be fact.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, (Ephesians 3:20 NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I want to know the riches of Your love. Clean up my mess, and abide in my heart. I want to commune with you. Help me become rooted and grounded in Your love. Amen.

DIG DEEPER

according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him. (Ephesians 3:11-12 NKJV)

HIKING THE TRAIL

I always believed God loved me, but I didn’t value it enough to help me live the abundant life. Where do you fall, believing His love, not believing because you feel unworthy, or needing to appreciate the value and riches of it? Focus on moving to the next level as you pray.
