The Truth Shall Make You Free

THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free   –

John 8:32 (NKJV)

If you are a Christian, you have the greatest freedom possible. You are free from sin, free from death, and free from condemnation. Jesus Christ is the truth (John 14:6 NKJV), and when a person knows Him as their personal Lord and Savior, He has made them free.

We are no longer slaves to sin. “… Our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.” (Rom. 6:6 NKJV). Although we are new creations, we still live in our sinful human flesh which causes us to stumble. However, we are no longer bound to sin. We are able to live holy lives because we have the Holy Spirit living in us, guiding and directing us.

We are free from death. Yes, our human bodies will die one day, unless Jesus Christ returns before that time. We just pass from this life to our eternal life. We will not experience the second death that unbelievers will endure. Believers will “not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16b).

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,” (Rom. 8:1a). Jesus Christ loved us so much that He came to this earth, born of a virgin, to die in our place. He led a perfect, sinless life – fully God and fully man. He was the only One who could be our substitute. When we cry out to God for salvation, and we turn from our sin, we are no longer guilty before God.

Christian, thank God for the greatest freedom that you could know. We may be persecuted, imprisoned, or even have our Bibles taken from us, but they can never take away our Savior and Redeemer.
