Why Are You Fearful

But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.   –Matt. 8:26

Jesus answered His own question. The reason the disciples were afraid during a storm on the Sea of Galilee is the same reason we are fearful. We lack faith. However, Scripture gives us many reasons why we should not fear.

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Is. 41:10). In Deuteronomy 31:8, we are reminded of God’s promises to never leave us nor forsake us along with a command to not fear. Jesus explained that we should not fear man, but we should fear God because He alone destroys body and soul. Jesus said that a sparrow does not fall apart from the Father’s will. “Do not fear therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Matt. 10:31).

These verses show that God is always with us. He will never leave our side. He is our strength and our help. He is our God and He will uphold us for He values us dearly. We must believe these truths and cling to them when our storms come. They will calm our fears about our future and this country’s future. They will silence the fears about health, money, and jobs. They will soothe fears about our children and families. Our fears shall be as calm as the winds and the sea. We must condition ourselves to trust God more today than yesterday, and tomorrow we will trust Him even more.

“Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be moved, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;” (Ps. 46:2). With God, there is no room for fear.

Dear Friend,

During the next few months, I will be posting more of my older devotionals. I feel it is the best way to keep content on here and continue to work on my next book. I am also busy with a speaking coach, writing a chapter for a book about guide dogs, plus Encouragement Café. Sure, I would love to rewrite some of these posts, but the biblical content is still true. Thank you for understanding, and please leave a comment to let me know what topics you are interested in reading. Not all posts will be from the archives, so please don’t stop following. Thanks, and God bless.
