Throwback Thursday: Confident Prayer

CONFIDENT PRAYER

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything

according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us,

whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.    – 1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV)

Isn’t it wonderful that God answers our prayers? It amazes me, especially when He answers my small prayers.

One summer, we visited a natural habitat for bears at Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina. I was straining to see the bear with the only small field of vision that I have left. I prayed a silent prayer for God to let me see the bear. Moments later, the bear sat right in front of me and posed. Nobody knew about my prayer, and my husband was surprised that the bear had sat close enough for me to see her brown face and her little ears.

How can we pray with confidence that God will answer? John tells us that we must pray “according to His will”. We have confidence in whatever we ask because we know that God’s will shall be done. He knows what is best for us far better than we do. I know the limits of my vision, and I know that seeing the bear was miraculous. Of course, I don’t presume on God and request to see something every day. These are precious and rare moments, and I am blessed with His mercies.

Now, if God answers the prayer of a very visually impaired woman to see a bear, what more will He do? The answers are limitless. Imagine the things He will do, but often we don’t take the little things to Him. God is concerned about everything in our lives, even the smallest things. What are some small things that you can take to God today? Pray for His will to be done, and be confident that He hears you.
