Perhaps you have heard the idiom “familiarity breeds contempt.” It certainly describes Christmas. We are all familiar with Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus. We know all about shepherds, wise men, and angels singing about peace on earth. We know it so well that we often forget the reason for it all. Why did God send His Son to be born of a virgin? The answer is simple, but profound. The Apostle John could not find words to adequately express it, so he wrote, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 NKJV emphasis added).
