MERCY, PEACE AND LOVE
Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. –Jude 2
Such a short statement offers so much encouragement, and it gives us so much to be thankful for. Jude wanted to encourage his readers before he gave them warnings about the need to contend for the faith (Jude 3). He wanted them to understand that even though times may get rough, God will multiply – increase – their mercy, peace, and love.
Mercy is poured out on Christians every day. God is merciful to us in that we have air to breathe and food to eat. He is merciful when He does not allow situations to be any worse than they are. He is merciful when He forgives our sins. “…that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory,” (Rom. 9:23).
God also pours out peace upon His children. He gives us peace in the time of trouble. His peace is beyond understanding since the source is divine (Phil. 4:7). “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.”(John 14:27a). The world cannot offer this type of peace, but God lavishes Christians with peace.
Finally, God pours out His abundant love upon us. Paul wrote, “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Rom. 5:5). God’s love continues to pour out into our hearts which are overflowing. Only one who loved us so much would give His life for us. Only one who loves us so much gives us the Holy Spirit. We are His; we are never alone.
No matter what you are going through, remember that God is overflowing you with His mercy, His peace, and His love. Make time to thank God for all that He gives us.
I can never thank You enough for Your incredible mercy. Your peace sustains me when times are rough because I trust You and I know You are in control of it all. You loved me when I was still in my sin, but You made me Your child. Help me show this love to others. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
